Australians think what…?

Like a fish surrounded by it’s water, sometimes it’s hard for us to know what the society around us really thinks about Jesus. The media alone will present various different representations of the Australian public – from surly atheists to indifferent consumers to thirsty seekers in a spiritual desert.
Before Easter this year, The Centre for Public Christianity (CPX)- themselves Christians- commissioned a survey of the wider public called ‘What Australians think of Jesus’. The results will surprise you in good ways and bad, not the least being: of people NOT describing themselves as ‘born-again-Christians’ 45.2% believe that Jesus rose from the dead. Unfortunately, 31% in the same category also believe he lived in the BC era. Not the sharpest tools in the shed.
You can listen to a podcast describing more of the surprising results here. They might be an interesting way to start up a conversation with someone.
Oh, and CPX is the brainchild of John Dickson & Greg Clarke, who were at Unichurch and CU earlier in the year.
