How to contact me

June 22nd, 2009 by Rory Shiner Posted in Uncategorized

Today I found an official letter I haven’t noticed for about 3 weeks (it was, in fact, a $900 cheque from Kevin Rudd, in honour of my services to humanity, I believe).

Made me realize what little attention I pay to the post these days. So different from the days when, for example, living in Singapore in the 1990s, one of my greatest joys in life was seeing if someone had written me a letter.

If I were to rate most reliable ways to contact me and have me attend to the request or whatever I think it would be, in order of best to worst:

1. Email
2. Text Message
3. Facebook
4. Mobile Phone call
5. Postal Mail
6. Message on mobile phone message bank
7. Message on home phone

Is that how it works for most people these days?

Yep, good call, Rors. I think the list would be same for me. Although I think email is a bit more hit-and-miss for people that don’t have regular office jobs (e.g. students, tradies). But everyone checks FB five times an hour!

Text message is probably best for disseminating information since ppl get it pretty much instantaneously, but not so good for asking something… I’m notoriously bad at replying to them since the moment you ask a complicated question or request it’s too hard to reply in 160 characters, or you’re busy doing something and you forget…
