Who wants to be a missionary?

“A missionary God” is how the English theologian John Stott describes the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. With a heart for the whole world, the Father sent Jesus to seek out the lost and welcome them into his kingdom. Jesus proclaimed the day of salvation to all who would listen. “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you,” he said to his followers as he sent them out with the gospel of hope to bear witness to his amazing grace—and he still does the same today.
The opportunities for missionary work are as varied as the different countries that stretch across our world. CMS has recently identified five areas of missionary work as its priority over the next 10 years. They are: mission in Muslim areas; student ministry; church-based ministry; leadership training; and development and caring ministries. You can find out more by reading stories about missionaries in the field in CMS’s quarterly magazine, Checkpoint (available this Sunday at Unichurch).
Each month CMS advertises new missionary opportunities on its website at here. Some of the current ones include:
An Administrator in Cambodia, Nepal, Tanzania, South Asia; Medical personnel for Nepal, Tanzania, Egypt, South Asia; Agriculturalists for Cambodia; Engineers for Tanzania, South Asia; and Development workers for South Asia & Cambodia; Media workers are needed in Egypt (Marketing professional & Designer), Tanzania (Web editor), South Asia (Media Officer) and the Middle East (CEO); School teachers are needed in Cambodia (primary & secondary), Egypt (early childhood), South Africa (early childhood), Indonesia (secondary), India (primary & secondary) Nepal (boarding & support staff), Nepal (primary & teacher trainers), Northern Territory, Pakistan (primary), Tanzania (primary & religious education, secondary & trainees) and South Asia (primary & secondary); Teachers of English as a Second Language are required in Pakistan, Cambodia, Malaysia, Egypt, Indonesia, Tanzania, Japan and South Asia; Student Workers are needed in Argentina, France, Tanzania, Japan and Spain and there are opportunities in Church-based Ministries in Chile, Spain, Pakistan, Singapore, Sabah, Tanzania and the Northern Territory; Bible/Theology Teachers are needed in Indonesia, Tanzania, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, South Asia and the Northern Territory; Bible translation/literacy workers are also needed in the Northern Territory.
So what can YOU do? It starts with taking God’s call seriously:
- praying according to the faith God has given you;
- caring with the thoughtful liberality which God has endowed you;
- giving with generosity and joy from the bounty that God has allowed you; and
- considering whether you are being called by God into going…so that you can be at the frontline of God’s work all over the world.
