WHAT'S A KID SUPPOSED TO THINK ?!!

Yeah, so needless to say I was dissappointed when it arrived... sucked in again...

“The sudden disappointment of a hope leaves a scar which the ultimate fulfillment of that hope never entirely removes.” Thomas Hardy

Yeah cheers Hardy,  I bare my share of childhood scars – I sure cried a lot when certain things didn’t work out the way I’d hoped.  Especially when I had my heart fully set on something – like cruising around in my own submarine blowing up stuff (like a giant squid) and chasing sharks through deep sea canyons.  So now-a-days I find myself  becoming more and more a ‘worsed case scenario’ kind of guy ( “realist” ?)-  probably to avoid being caught off guard and left reeling and stinging by yet another misplaced expectation.  When was the last time you recoiled into a sulking sobbing mess ?  Sure the Bible says something about ‘Guarding your heart’ and Mum & Dad keep harping on about finding the right balance in everything – apparently ‘Mature’ and ‘Wise’ people are good at having realistic, well placed expectations – they seemingly don’t get bowled over by the various freakish events of daily life.

But you know what – they’re BORING!  Why not wear your heart on your sleeve and get back on the front foot in life!  I’m determined to reinstate the Kamikaze wholeheartedness that characterised my youth …  Take some risks and dream biggerer.  Perhaps even BE interesting.  Why do things by halves all the time out of fear?  Go on! Hire those animal suits with your best mate and go for a run through the zoo.  Quite sending emails -hire a whole bottle of helium, just so you can work your way through the Unichurch Phone Book and say a few ‘uplifting’ words.  Bring it on! You’ll actually have something interesting to talk about after Hub or Church this week … I mean seriously, how cool would it have been if I had actually scored a Polaris Nuclear Sub of my own for $6.98.  Steph and I could’ve spent the weekend sinking pirates and hustling up a bit of extra pocket money.

So did you actually order the sub? If you did, what turned up that was so disappointing? The sub in the ad looks, I must say, extremely sweet. I would have been sucked in, too.

You were crazier and dreamt even bigger in your youth? You’re a scary man Stephen Ritchie. It’d be great if we could be more recklessly daring as a church though, my visits to Redeemer and Mars Hill have made us seem timid indeed.

Great thought Brian – recklessly daring …
I guess I was asking that question of myself – what some call reckless others call daring – why would we take the risk? What is holding us back? WED HUB kicks off tonight – there’s been a lot of talk about evangelism.
In what ways does Jesus make us BOLD – I’d like a photo of that!
